OUR HISTORY . . .
CENTENNIAL SENTIMENTS - Last week, Carroll Minor shared a wonderful St. James Centennial Sentiment on the dedicated telephone line that has been set up especially for this purpose. In case you missed it, c lick THIS LINK to listen to the heartwarming story she shared.
If you have been a member at St. James for any time at all, you have witnessed many of the wonderful ways St. James performs God's work and some of the many challenges we have faced as a congregation. You have some stories to share and we want to hear them. The phone number to call is 865-357-0703. When you make the call, a recorded greeting will invite you to share your sentiments over the phone. Your sentiments will be saved and added to a special collection that will be presented at our website. Selected sentiments will also be featured in upcoming editions of the St. James Sentinel.
UNCLE FRITZ - Featuring more than 40 works created over a 60-year span, Fritz Massaquoi (1926-2022): In Memoriam pays tribute to the long and prolific career of a West African multi-media artist who spent his last three decades in Knoxville. An opening reception will be held at the Emporium on Friday, April 1 @ 5 pm - 9pm. The exhibit will be on display for the entire month of April. Fritz Hilary Massaquoi, "Uncle Fritz", was a self-taught painter who also worked in batik, tie-dye, weaving, printmaking, and papermaking. A long time Emporium resident artist, his works have been collected and exhibited internationally. He was also active as an art teacher and inspired his students wherever he taught. ST. JAMES TRENDING - Above are some interesting graphs showing trends in St. James membership, attendance, and giving during the period 2011 - 2020. Click on each of the graphs to enlarge them and see them more clearly. Then, consider the questions below. Please share any thoughts you may have with jwiggers@stjamesknox.org and/or kevin@stjamesknox.org.
- What trends are evident as you examine the data and reflect on your own experiences?
- Are there some things revealed in our graphs that surprise, excite, or scare you?
- What stories do the trends appear to be telling?
- What future possibilities can we imagine that could correct any declining trends?
- How can we join more fully with what God is up to through our work at St. James?
- How do you as an individual feel inspired to share good news throughout our parish?
- How can we inspire others in our parish to feel more inspired to share good news?

THE PRESENT . . .
Bob W has been reading a daily meditation on stoic philosophy. Here is one message that reminds us not to overlook the present for wanting the past to be more than it was or wanting the future to unfold exactly as we expect with hardly a thought as to how it might affect other people. When we do this, we are neglecting the present moment. A saying attributed to Bill Keane, the cartoonist, is worth remembering: "Yesterday is the past, tomorrow is the future, but today is a GIFT. That is why it is called the present." The present is firmly in our grasp, but it has a rapidly approaching expiration date. If we enjoy all of it, it will be enough and can last a lifetime.

PUPPETS AT ST JAMES - St. James is excited to be partnering with the Cattywampus Puppet Council to hold open “parade maker” space for Knoxville community members to work on giant puppets for the Community Arts Parade on Saturday, Mar 26 as part of the Big Ears Festival.
On Sun, Mar 20, 2 pm - 6 pm., Mon, Mar 21, 4 pm - 7 pm, and Tue, Mar 22, 4 pm - 7 pm, tables will be set up in the Parish Hall with giant puppets to be dressed with papier-mache. There will also be additional stations for adults and kids to make their own small masks or other art for the parade. Dolly Parton is currently residing in the Parish Hall having some restorative work done in anticipation of her appearance in the parade. The Preservation Hall Jazz Band and some other Big Ears artists may also drop in to play some music while everyone is making art. Read more about the parade at cattywampuspuppetcouncil.com/giant-puppet-parade/.
COVID UPDATES - Our Vestry has decided to continue to follow CDC guidelines regarding face coverings and COVID-19. As Knox County is now in the low risk range, masks are optional when attending worship or other events at St James. Please respect the decisions of others in this transition. Should the risk level increase, we will adjust at that time.

REAL MINISTRY - Realm is our cloud-based "members only" church networking platform that helps us perform real ministry by working as a catalyst for engagement - 24/7. Realm helps our ministry leaders organize their communications, share content, and distribute task assignments within their groups. It also helps new members by offering the resources they need to be put on pathways to achieve spiritual fulfillment.
